We love festive food, but hate food waste & definitely don’t want to be food tossers! Try our suggestions for getting through that mountain of sprouts, cheese & turkey this year….

• Got Turkey, ham or cheese? Try a toastie pimped up with some sweet chilli & honey sauce
• A good reason to cook sprouts is the prospect of them stir fried till sticky with sweet chilli sauce, so good we often have this on Christmas Day
• You can’t beat a good homemade pie, try this recipe for Ham & Mustard Pie, you can swap the ham for turkey, or use both?
• Vegetable hash or Bubble & Squeak uses up left over potatoes & veg, roughly mash the spuds, shred your greens, chop the veg, pimp it up with some whole grain mustard & fresh herbs, or add Moroccan or Indian spices & make little patties which can be pan fried & dipped in Mango chutney.
• Got a ton of cheese left over from the Xmas cheeseboard? Our favourite things to make are Cauliflower Cheese (or Broccoli or Brussel), Cheese straws, Mac n Cheese, a cheese toastie with sweet chilli sauce, a quesadilla, a vegetable gratin or pimped up cheese on toast. All great ways of using up random bits of cheese, goats cheese, cheddar, smoked & blue all work well.
• Left overs can be baked into a quick galette or open tart, grab yourself some puff pastry, left over veg, salami or meat then crumble over goats cheese & top with caramelised onions
• Christmas pudding crumbled up & eaten with yoghurt, whipped cream or mascarpone can be pimped up with some Figs in Kent Honey & Brandy, a handful of chopped nuts or a drizzle of honey (if it’s eaten with yoghurt I’m fairly sure it counts as a valid Boxing Day breakfast!)
• If all else fails a Thai Turkey Curry or a big batch of veggie soup is our fail safe way of using up leftovers. Freeze in portions in tubs to fuel you at lunch time through January.
